Para el Instituto de los Mexicanos en el Exterior es crucial apoyar a la juventud mexicana y de origen mexicano que vive en el exterior y mantener lazos sólidos con su país de origen. De los más de 37 millones de mexicanos (origen) que viven en EU, casi una cuarta parte, es decir, alrededor de 9.5 millones son jóvenes, entre los 15 y 29 años de edad.
De ahí que hemos fortalecido la iniciativa de IME Becas para contribuir a su desarrollo académico y una mejor inserción en sus comunidades.

Quería agradecerles por ser tan generosos y otorgarme este estímulo de ayuda de IME Beca. Esta beca me ha permitido continuar con mi meta ya que mis estudios son muy caros, y en una comunidad donde los dreamers tenemos opciones limitadas ustedes me han dado la oportunidad de seguir y prepararme para seguir con mi maestría. With the help of the College Assistant Migrant Program (CAMP) I was able to become a site leader for IEM (International Engagement in Mexico). During the week of this program, my students and I were able to work directly with orphans at, “Albergue Infantil Josefino,” by planning multiple games and events. In our downtime, my group and I painted, cleaned, and renovated the playground to ensure that the kids had a nice and safe playground to play at. At the end of the week, my group and I bought food and drinks for all the orphans and staff, as well as played games with the kids all day.
The way I see myself as being committed to community advancement in the Mexican community, is by doing exactly what I am doing now. By being Mexican, a first-generation student, a person of color, an LGBT student as well as migrant farm worker, I have overcome multiple barriers. By winning this scholarship, it would help me reach my goals of being a Physician Assistant and help prove that an individual is able to overcome the social inequalities in our society.

I wish to thank the Mexican Consulate for choosing me as a recipient of the Instituto de los Mexicanos en el Exterior (IME) Becas Program. This is my sixth year attending Wayne State University and second year of Nursing school. Throughout my college career I have always been a part-time student due to having the responsibility of working to pay for school. As a DACA recipient, I am not eligible for any student loans, grants or federal aid, and thus depend solely on the aid of private scholarships to fund my studies. By awarding me the IME Beca, you have lightened my financial burden to allow me to focus on my passion and career. My educational plans consist of graduating from the nursing program in 2022 and studying for the NCLEX exam to gain my Michigan nursing license so I may work as a registered nurse. Thank you for helping me achieve my goal.
